Put your dreams away for now

Remember the United Colors of Bennetton?

Even if you don't, you've probably seen their famous multi-racial cast of models in a ton of ads. This season, the brand has decided to step their game up by having world leaders in their ads. If that's not interesting enough, the world leaders happen to be clashing ones. Still not interesting? The leaders are actually KISSING, but obviously, the images are photoshopped. According to Bennetton's website, the ads show world leaders locking lips to promote tolerance. Bennetton is simply amplifying their Unhate Campaign, which was created to undermine the omnipresent hate culture.

The ad campaign is so controversial that the pope(in his fabulous Louboutin loafers), commanded that the ads needed to be taken down because of its lewdness. Oh, the sweet irony.

Is this just a clever attempt to revive the brand's dropping sales? Or is Bennetton really on a passionate campaign to stop the hatin'?

  1. Hi Abby,
These advertisements are so shocking. Do you have any idea why United Colors of Benetton would support the Unhate Foundation? Is it just this year they are supporting the foundation? I think this is a good advertisement to catch people attention, but I think there is a better way to promote this other than kissing (even this is photoshopped)Still, I think they are really successful in catching people's and media's attention. Anyway, nice post.

  3. I see where they're going with the kissing,i thought it was real when i first saw it. It's a good way to get people's attention, and whoever edited the photos did a really good job, it looks realistic.

  4. Hi Abby,

Although the message is nice and encouraging, I cannot help but acknowledge the fact that this is ultimately an ad campaign. Although they may be sending a good message, I can't help but think that there is an ulterior motive to the shock value of these images.

  5. Wow, I've never seen these pictures before but they almost seem real. I understand this ad campaign is attempting to give a good message but it's hard for society to accept it especially with this approach.
